Born and raised in South Carolina, I went to college at the University of Arizona in Tucson to broaden my horizons and experience a new landscape and culture. What I ended up discovering was a renewed love for my hometown, Charleston. Armed with degrees in vocal music and studio art, I returned to the city of my birth.
Combining my loves of drawing, illustration, and photography, I have used manual collage techniques to provide new perspectives on classic cityscapes and universal themes. Most of my work begins with a watercolor underpainting onto which original photographs are transferred. Sometimes the image is finalized with additions in India ink. In my cityscapes, I hope to bring out the colors and patterns of historic Charleston, bringing a new focus to these familiar images. In my conceptual pieces, I seek to communicate my own experiences in such a way that any viewer can see themselves reflected in my work.
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, swing dancing, and beading. I sing with the Charleston Symphony Chorus and am working on building a repertoire with my boyfriend Michael Lindsey, classical guitarist.
